The Official 2011 PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl

Welcome to Information Central for the 2011 PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl. When this year’s pubcrawl becomes history we’ll move it into the list at the right so you can relive the crazed celebration of past Paloozas. If you’ve come for information on previous pubcrawls that’d be the place to be digging.

The Date

Saturday, Septembarrrrrr 17th, 2011 (International Talk Like a Pirate Weekend)
The 2011 PiratePalooza™ pubcrawl will be on Saturday, Septembarrrr 17th, beginning at 1:30pm and ending around 11pm. That be NINE and ONE HALF hours of piratey goodness… this should well and truly test the mettle of the pollywogs!

The Schedule

You’re encouraged to follow my crew as we invade Decatarrrr!! As in past years, the 2011 Palooza will be divided into two distinct chapters: the PubCrawl and the PubSing, with a 30 minute break in between. The PiratePalooza™ PubCrawl transpires in Decatarrrr and begins around 1:30pm, lasting until 6:30pm. The PiratePalooza™ PubSing will happen at the James Joyce Irish Pub in Avondale Estates, beginning around 7:00pm and lasting until at least 10:00pm, probably later!!

Note that we usually weigh anchor about a quarter til the end of each scheduled stop to set sail to the next port of destination. If you have a larger party you might wish to land at one of the locations ahead of us, or stay there after we’ve set sail and catch up to us at another port. Please do be sure to enjoy yourself regardless of how you choose to experience the pubcrawl and remember to be gracious tippers and responsible tipplers; we can scarce afford to lose a single sailor to poor judgement – and you must be the Captains of your own ships! Keep a weather eye out for your fellow rogues to keep them safe from harm! [click here for more information about how you can be a designated steersman]

The Pubcrawl

The pubcrawl features four locations this year: Twain’s (1:30pm-2:30pm), The Brick Store (2:45pm-4:00pm), the Commodore Stephen Decatur Plaza (above the MARTA station)(4:05pm-4:30pm) and Mac McGee’s Irish Pub (4:35pm-6:30pm). Advanced scouting parties will depart each location on the crawl 10 or 15 minutes before the next location’s arrival time. Here are the details!

The Gathering

Hive of scum and villainy? This must be the place!

  • 1:30pm – 2:30pm
  • Twain’s Billiards & Tap
  • 211 E Trinity Place, Decatur, GA 30030-3414
  • (404) 373-0063
  • Once again we’ll slip into this beer-soaked din of parlour games, this gin-stained shrine to American folklore, this alcohol-verbed location of adjective-described nouns where we’ll plot and plan our attack on the unsuspecting city of Decatarrrr!!!

The Invasion – Legge the Firste

What, we have to WALK??

  • 2:30pm – 2:45pm
  • We depart Mr. Twain’s riverboat and take to the streets of Decatarrrr to let the townsfolk know that we are come to drink their ale! We strike quickly, hot and fast! Streaking across the soft eastern underbelly of this parochial town we stroll down the high street and around the corner toward the legendary Belgian Bar, secreted in the attic of the Brick Store. As if we couldn’t figure out where they’d hidden it….

1st Port of Call

Emboldened, we take the Belgian Bar at the Bricke Store! Belgium, man, BELGIUM!!!

  • 2:45pm – 4:00pm
  • The Brick Store Pub
  • 125 East Court Square, Decatur, Georgia 30030
  • (404) 687-0990
  • Once we arrive here at the Brick Store we’ll threaten their crew with gold and paper and plastic cards full of numbers, in exchange for high gravity Belgian beers and tasty delectables from their kitchen. Tip your servers well, but make sure they know how close they came to danger this day by growling at them!! (restrooms under the stairs toward the kitchen or somewhere in the corner, when none be around)

The Invasion – Legge the Seconde

That Commodore has a thing or two coming…

  • 4:00pm – 4:01pm (it’s a really short walk)
  • Once we’ve taken the Brick Store and secured all her tasty kegs of European beer we’ll wobble over to the scenic Stephen Decatarrrr plaza for a showdown with a Legend…

2nd Port of Call

A REELY Good Time…

  • 4:01pm – 4:30pm
  • The Plaza at Decatarrr Square (above the Decatur MARTA station)
  • We’ll gather here at the bust of Commodore Stephen Decatur, scourge of the Barbary pirates, to celebrate the taking of this inland port. Come, my pirates and dance the Virginia Reel with us on our way to Mac McGee’s! We’ll perambulate up and down like cocks of the walk, to drive home the point that Decatarrrr has fallen well and truly under our power… and to also allow the townsfolk to have their photos taken with us, if they be daring enough. To all you pirates what be from Virginia, this might be a reeely, reeely good place to be around this time, if you catch our drift….

The Invasion – Legge the Thirde

Thirty Paces….

  • 4:30pm – 4:31pm
  • IF you be thirsty from all the dancing in front of The Commodore, tumble down the stairs to this haunt of the Irishmen for a pint! (If you feel like it, tumble back up the stair for another go at taunting the Commodore! Back and forth, back and forth!)

3rd Port of Call

A pub so close to The Commodore? It must be a sign!

  • 4:31pm – 6:30pm
  • Mac McGee’s Irish Pub
  • 111 Sycamore Street, Decatur Square, Decatur GA 30030
  • (404) 377-8050
  • After our confrontation with the ghost of The Commodore, any pirate worth his salt will be on the lookout for more rum and ale and pirate grog and with this boozy ken so close by we can slake our thirst, dance a bit more and finally consider the last and most arduous leg of our journey…. the route to that pirate conclave known as PiratePalooza™!!!

The Invasion – Legge the Fourth

Last one there’s a smelly old fish!

  • 6:31pm – 6:59pm
  • Now, take to your longboats and row hard for Avondale Estates!! We’ll meet you at the James Joyce Irish Pub!!

PiratePalooza™ 7 – 2011 Concert

The big dance. The thing you’ve waited for all year. The chance to howl and sing and drink and trade tales of buried treasure, indiscreet encounters and how much better this is than sitting in a small dingy cell all day, hiding your game of solitaire whenever the boss walks by….. Yarrr.

  • 7:00pm – 10:00pm
  • The James Joyce Irish Pub
  • 22 North Avondale Road, Avondale Estates, Georgia 30002

History of the Pubcrawl
Dreamed of by Captain Drew, greatly and fabulously abetted, planned and engineered by Fiona Leonard, Geoffrey Brown and Tracy Wilson, the very first PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl debuted in 2005 where it netted round about 100 patrons, both pirate and lubbers. It featured music by a great gaggle of extremely popular Renaissance Festival music groups and much ale, wine, grog and port were consumed by the attendees. Many grand hangovers were born that night and the event became legend in short order.

You’ll find photos from the PiratePalooza™ Pubcrawl at the PiratePalooza™ Community at Flickrrrr, which you can quickly access from the Photos page on this here webdoodle.
